Keep the water Reservoir Full
It is a best practice to add water your plants reservoir usually every 3 days, especially if they have grown large. This provides the plants roots with the most stable growing conditions. Roots get used to a certain water level. While it is not critical, it does help the plants grow to their best potential.
Be sure to prune your tall plants
Make sure you prune your tall and vining plants, like basil and mint.
They will tend to take over just like in an outdoor garden but much faster.
Your garden should have come with a pamphlet on how to trim your plants.
Plant fewer pods use a spacer instead
One way to control plants like basil or mint from taking over your garden is to not plant as many pods or save them for another planting all together.
Dry the leaves or start New plant Cuttings
With herb garden that have plants such as mint and basil you can strip off the leaves and dry them for later use; you can even can cut them back and save the cuttings for rooting in water or a growing medium.
Want herbal tea, pesto, or seasoned tomato sauces?
Make mint tea with the leaves of peppermint or spearmint.
Use the Basil or oregano with tomatoes for spaghetti sauce.
Theses herbs are awesome dried especially when compared to store bought seasonings
Grow your own lettuce indoors
To grow the tastiest lettuce you need to harvest it while it is young, not real tall, and mature. Just like in any garden with lettuce, left to grow to a very mature stage the lettuce might get bitter.

Refreshing the Nutrient Reservoir for better growth
Another important point is that it would be wise to at least once a month to should DRAIN the unit, and put fresh solution in.
If you do not the plants can get “Nutrient Burn” where the plant edges start to turn brown. Not all plants do but some are more sensitive to nutrient build up in the solution.
This is because the uptake or the diffusion of nutrients is not perfect, as you continue to add water and plant food; some nutrients get too high while others are too low.
Read some Indoor Gardening Books
It is important to follow the instructions supplied with the garden.
Nevertheless, it would also be a good idea to find an easy to understand indoor hydroponic garden book.
Indoor hydroponic gardening is different from outside gardening in enough ways to require some reading.
Especially if you are a beginner gardener.
One kindle book I think is useful and informative for a beginner is the Indoor Salad: How to Grow Vegetables Indoors
I have read this book; I keep it on one of my kindles for reference. She has some good information.
